Flick upgrades museum tour software

Ottawa's Flick Software has introduced an updated version of its Mobile Interactive Guide, a program that allows visitors to museums, science centres and similar attractions to tailor their visit to their individual needs and tastes.

The Canada Science and Technology Museum on St. Laurent Boulevard recently demonstrated a pilot project involving the software at a meeting of museum officials.

When coupled with a handheld device, the Mobile Interactive Guide allows users to learn more about the various exhibits and artifacts on display.

Museum president Christopher Terry says the Guide will help increase accessibility and broaden the Science Museum's audience.

"We were particularly drawn to the capabilities offered by a software solution that will enable us to customize experiences to each visitor's needs, including being able to tell multiple stories around exhibits and tailor content over a mobile device, "says Mr. Terry.

The Science Museum's version of the Guide includes a customized tour of the history of vehicles and a museum-wide treasure hunt for younger visitors.

"In addition to customized content delivery, the Mobile Interactive Guide will provide museum visitors with access to interactive maps, feedback options, quizzes and post-visit email reviews," says Jason Flick, president of Flick Software. "This new version of the Mobile Interactive Guide offers unique software innovations that will leverage the museum's digital content investments and deliver it intuitively to their visitors in fun and interactive ways."
