Picture Tubes And Handhelds
Did you know that,
although there are many different makes of televisions and computer monitors,
there are only a handful of factories in the world that produce picture
tubes? That’s right: each of the ‘big
names’ buys the tubes they put into their products from one of these factories,
then adds their own differentiation.
This works because each of
the factories concentrates the technical expertise required to build picture
tubes. This allows them to specialize
and to benefit from efficiencies of scale which allow for products to be sold
to consumers at attractive and profitable prices. As a consumer, we’re not even aware of who
built the picture tube.
In a similar manner, a
number of companies have asked us to build parts of their products for
them. In each case, the software we have
built has run on some kind of handheld device. Just as the picture tube has been perfectly integrated with the
television set or computer monitor, so our software has been seamlessly
integrated with our customers’ products.
Our customers have prized
our broad engineering capability and our in-depth technical expertise with
handheld computers. From initial use
case analyses through requirements specification, to system design,
implementation, and deployment, Flick Software applies its handheld expertise
to successfully produce the handheld components of our customers’ products.
Just as television and
computer monitor manufacturers prefer to integrate picture tubes into systems
bearing their own names, our own customers prefer that the world perceive their
own products as being completely the result of their own efforts. We honour our commitments to our customers –
even when that means we can’t use their names to promote our own business. Our customers appreciate that too!
