Note from Jason Flick

There is little doubt that Google has become a global market innovator.  They dominated the search engine business and are branching out into new areas each month.  Of relevance to mobile technology in business, Google has taken two big steps.  One, they moved into the enterprise space with a new search product.  Two, they have moved into the mobile space with, among others, Google Local Mobile.  Many are calling this the first useful blackberry application since push E-mail.  They have released the same product for a plethora of java based smart phones as well.   It appears Google's key driver for the mobile space is to augment it's 96% advertising revenue base with a lucrative mobile content strategy.  If successful it may spur an entire development platform standard allowing for improved software deployment across all Smartphone devices.
With the Smartphone space still the wild west of software in many respects it will be wise for us to keep an eye on Google and see if they go as far as they have in the desk top world.  Specifically the Google Pack, which is giving Microsoft a scare as it is a start at marginalizing the operating system.  Also expect to see Google carrying out many acquisitions and syndications for mobile content in 2006.

Review: RIM BlackBerry 7130e - A Worthy, Fast Follow Up
February 1, 2006
By Dave Mabe

The BlackBerry 7130e is a welcome addition to Research In Motion's (RIM) 7100 series. Like other models, the 7130e sports the form factor of a standard mobile phone instead of the relatively clunky BlackBerry shape that you might be used to. Best of all, the device is EV-DO capable, allowing it to reach data speeds that far outpace earlier models.

Skeptics still abound, but Treo hacker extraordinaire Shadowmite is vouching for the authenticity of those Treo 700p pics that popped up yesterday evening; this dude's rep alone is enough to have most Treo fanatics convinced that this is the real deal.
The new Treo 700p, which will supposedly be available from Sprint in April, will have a 312MHz processor, Palm OS 5.4.9, EV-DO, 1.3 megapixel digital camera, a 320 x 320 pixel display, and Bluetooth.
