Canadian Health Systems (CHS inc): E M R Advantage Case Study

When Canadian Health Systems needed a partner to develop and deploy their envisioned mobile medical products, they came to Flick Software a company with deep knowledge on tablet, handheld and mobile backend systems integration.

CHS Inc. had already developed a market leading PC based system and had a strong customer base, but they needed to push the product out to where the people are and that isn’t sitting at a PC.

We started with a complete requirement assessment, including being on site and seeing how their doctors and support staff work.  We collected these requirements and use cases and used them as the input for our design.  The design included a light weight, highly reliable communications protocol, friendly to battery usage, and a user interface that was intuitive and pen friendly. 

Another variable that was key to the success of the project was our careful consideration of the patient record data.  Security is a high priority and best practices such as not storing data unencrypted on the devices and having auto logoff features are necessary.

We went on to develop the project on time and on budget eventually building a handheld version that was used for transcribing notes and a view of who was in the waiting room to seen next.

CHS has been doubling the number of customers each year and we have helped them to train their staff so that they can support and evolve the product on their own.
